Built in 1889 as Alabama Builders' Hardware Manufacturing Company, the facility transformed into a hosiery mill in 1909 under W. B. Davis ownership.
The mill contributed to Fort Payne's recognition as a textile manufacturing center, leading to the city's designation as the Sock Capital of the World.
The historic structure now houses Vintage 1889 restaurant and Big Mill Co. Artisans and Antiques, offering dining and shopping experiences.
The complex stands as the sole remaining nineteenth-century industrial building in Fort Payne, representing the early manufacturing heritage of Alabama.
