George Dimmitt Memorial Hospital

George Dimmitt Memorial Hospital is a three-story brick building in Humansville, Missouri. The structure features two wings with covered porches, decorative terra cotta trim along the roofline, and retains most of its original windows and doors.

The building was constructed in 1929 when a local businessman funded its creation. Architects JL Heckenlively and Carl Mark designed the Colonial Revival structure during this period.

The building was created as a memorial by a local businessman to honor his deceased son. The structure shows how families of means in that era expressed personal loss through public contribution to their community.

The building is located in Humansville and is easy to spot in town. Be aware that the structure now serves as a residential facility and is no longer used for medical purposes.

The original operating room on the third floor received natural light through a large ceiling skylight. This was an advanced approach for medical buildings of that era, showing how architects wanted daylight for precise surgical work.
