Former residence of Shen Junru

This residence is a traditional Chinese house with wooden beams, tiled roofs, and decorative details carved into walls and doorways. The rooms are arranged around internal courtyards following the classical layout common to homes of this era.

The house was built in the early 1900s and became associated with a key figure in modern Chinese legal development. After 1949 the building gained importance as its resident played a significant role in the new government.

The rooms reflect how the family lived and worked, with furnishings and personal items from different periods of their lives. Handwritten notes and books scattered throughout give insight into their daily interests and intellectual pursuits.

Expect uneven floors and steep stairs since this is a historic building with original construction features. The inner courtyards can become slippery during rain, so sturdy shoes are a good idea.

The work desk in the study bears visible scratches and marks from decades of writing and work, still evident on the old wood. These small details reveal how intensely the room was used and how much time was spent there.
