Wedemark

Wedemark encompasses sixteen formerly independent villages spread across 173 square kilometers of land north of Hanover, with an elevation of 48 meters.

The current administrative structure of Wedemark emerged in 1974 through a territorial reform that merged multiple independent communities into a consolidated municipality.

The annual Lichterzauber event in November transforms the municipality when residents place candles and lanterns throughout their neighborhoods to promote peace.

Three train stations in Bennemühlen, Mellendorf, and Bissendorf provide half-hourly rail connections to Hanover on weekdays and regular services to Hamburg.

With 29,814 inhabitants, Wedemark maintains the third-highest per capita income among all municipalities in Lower Saxony.
