Wedemark

Wedemark is a municipality north of Hanover formed from sixteen former villages across roughly 173 square kilometers. The area sits at about 50 meters above sea level and blends rural character with easy access to the state capital.

Wedemark took its current form in 1974 when a territorial reform consolidated several independent communities into one municipality. This merger created the modern structure that has remained in place since then.

The Lichterzauber festival in November lights up the municipality when residents place candles and lanterns throughout their neighborhoods to express a wish for peace. This tradition reflects how the community values togetherness and shared ideals.

Three train stations at Bennemühlen, Mellendorf, and Bissendorf offer half-hourly train services to Hanover on weekdays and regular connections to Hamburg. This makes it simple to explore the region or reach the state capital by rail.
