Entschenkopf, Mountain summit in Bavaria, Germany
Entschenkopf is a mountain summit in the Allgäu Alps with an elevation of 2,043 meters (6,703 feet). Its southern ridge forms the eastern boundary of the Gaisalp valley and dominates the landscape when viewed from below.
The mountain lies along ancient trade routes that once connected settlements across the Bavarian Alps. The hiking paths developed gradually over centuries as people regularly crossed these mountain passes.
Local mountaineering groups maintain the network of trails leading to Entschenkopf summit, preserving access for future generations of outdoor enthusiasts.
Two main routes lead to the summit: from the north via Falkenjoch or from the south starting at Upper Gaisalp Lake. The southern approach tends to be quieter and offers a more solitary climbing experience.
The Geißalpseen lakes along the hiking route form natural water reservoirs at different elevations, each with its own distinct ecology. These stepped lakes serve as striking visual landmarks and clearly show how the environment transforms with increasing altitude.
