Duojingyuan, chinesischer Garten in Mannheim
Duojingyuan is a Chinese garden in Mannheim's Luisenpark featuring traditional elements such as pavilions, bridges, and water features built by Chinese craftsmen. Its centerpiece is a two-story tea house, the largest in authentic Chinese style in Europe, surrounded by carefully arranged stones, wooden elements, and materials shipped from China.
The garden opened in 2001 as a result of a partnership between Mannheim and its Chinese sister city Zhenjiang. The project was made possible through support from local organizations like the Klaus Tschira Foundation and a generous donation from former Mannheim mayor Norbert Egger.
The garden's name, Duojingyuan, means Garden of Many Views and reflects Chinese philosophy about how each corner offers a new perspective. Visitors experience this idea while walking, as the pathways are intentionally designed to reveal new vistas at every turn.
The pathways in the garden are flat and easy to walk, making it accessible for visitors of all ages and mobility levels. The tea house is open from March to October with extended hours on weekends, with reduced hours during winter months.
The tea house offers visitors the chance to participate in traditional Chinese tea ceremonies, where one learns to enjoy tea in a mindful and unhurried way. Couples can also get married here and celebrate their wedding in this authentic Chinese setting, creating an unforgettable experience.
