Torschloss, Cultural heritage monument in Tettnang, Germany
The Torschloss stands at the edge of Tettnang old town, featuring a gate tower with stepped gables and Renaissance architectural elements throughout its structure.
Built around 1330 under Count Wilhelm II of Montfort, the gate tower complex expanded in 1578 when chancellor Johannes Leuthold added a chapel and residential section.
The building displays multiple coats of arms on its facade, representing successive ruling powers from Montfort through Baden-Württemberg across different historical periods.
The structure currently functions as a municipal museum and city archive, located at the intersection of major roads connecting Ravensburg, Wangen, Lindau, and Friedrichshafen.
The chapel contains Renaissance frescoes with ornamental decorations, friezes, and garlands, uncovered during renovation work completed in 2002.
