Schenkendorfbrücke, Cable-stayed footbridge in Schwabing-Freimann, Germany.
The Schenkendorfbrücke is a cable-stayed footbridge and cycle path in Schwabing-Freimann with two curved decks suspended from a single 34-meter mast. The structure spans 84 meters and connects different neighborhoods across the Petuel tunnel below.
A railway bridge stood at this location before 1990 until it was removed. The current structure was built in 2009 specifically to serve tram line 23 and to replace the former crossing.
The bridge brings together residents from different parts of the district who pass through it daily on their journeys. It connects neighborhoods that might otherwise feel separate, creating a shared route that ties the community together.
The bridge has wide pathways on both sides suitable for pedestrians and cyclists, with ramps and stairs at each end for easy access. It is most useful when crossing between the northern and southern parts of the district, especially during tram traffic times.
The two decks curve gently upward like waves, an unexpected shape for a modern structure that creates a sense of motion. This flowing design helps the bridge look light and energetic even though it must support substantial foot and cycle traffic.
