Carriage Museum

The Carriage Museum in Bulaq is a building that displays vehicles from the Muhammad Ali dynasty era. The collection includes ornate carriages, chariots, and horse trappings that reflect the craftsmanship and design of the period.

The building was established during Khedive Ismail's rule between 1863 and 1879. It originally functioned as the administrative center for the Khedive's carriage operations and represents a peak period of this dynasty.

The museum displays the Alay carriage, a gift from Napoleon III to Khedive Ismail marking the Suez Canal opening. Visitors can observe how this vehicle reflects the connections between Egypt and European powers during that era.

The museum can be reached on foot from Bulaq Square or by public transport and sits in an easily accessible location within the district. Move through the rooms at a leisurely pace since the collection is spread across multiple spaces and each area holds its own details.

The collection contains royal garments, oil paintings of monarchs, and specialized equipment used by the staff of the former Royal Stables. These personal items reveal the daily splendor and complexity of royal court life of that era.
