Port of Los Cristianos, Port in Arona, Spain
Port of Los Cristianos is a working harbor set inside a natural bay on the south coast of Tenerife. Ferries, fishing boats and pleasure craft share the water, while walkways run past docks and moored vessels.
The harbor began operating in 1523 as a small outlet for farm goods, lime and salt, and as shelter for fishing boats from the south of the island. Over time it grew from a local landing point into the main link between Tenerife and the nearby islands of La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro.
Local families still keep small fishing boats here, continuing a way of life that has shaped the neighborhood for generations. Visitors can see crews mending nets or unloading catch near the docks, a daily routine that connects the waterfront to old village customs.
Morning hours give the clearest view of daily comings and goings, with boats being prepared and crews moving along the docks. Walking close to the water offers a simple orientation, and most paths remain easy to follow on foot.
A raised walkway near the water lets you stand almost level with the decks of moored boats, giving a close view of ropes, hulls and onboard routines normally seen only from a distance. Seagulls often perch on the bollards just a few steps away, unbothered by the constant movement of people.
