Castle Lupario

Castle Lupario is an Iron Age hilltop settlement located on elevated ground between the municipalities of Brión and Rois in Galicia. The site features stone walls and defensive structures spread across the sloping landscape.

The site reveals continuous settlement from the Celtic period through the Roman occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. This long span of human habitation is preserved in the layers of archaeological evidence.

The name connects to the legend of Queen Lupa, a figure woven into local tradition and storytelling. This old story shapes how people in the region understand and relate to this place.

Access is via marked trails from Bastavales or Ribasar, with parking available at the base of the hill. The paths vary in terrain, so wear sturdy footwear and allow time to explore the sloping ground.

The site received official protection status as a Cultural Heritage Site in December 2009, marking recognition of its archaeological importance. This designation has helped preserve the location for future generations to study and visit.
