Nethermost Pike

Nethermost Pike is a fell in the Lake District reaching 891 meters (2,925 feet) in height. It forms part of the Helvellyn range and displays steep rocky cliffs on its eastern side and gentler grassy slopes facing west.

Lead mining took place on the eastern slopes during the sixteenth century as part of early industrial operations. Evidence of these mining activities can still be found on the mountainside today.

The mountain earned its place in Alfred Wainwright's Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells as the second-highest peak of the Eastern Fells.

The peak can be reached via multiple walking routes starting from the villages of Glenridding or Patterdale, roughly 8 kilometers away. Sturdy hiking boots are recommended and weather changes at height should be expected, as conditions can shift rapidly near the exposed cliffs.

The eastern cliffs support rare arctic-alpine plant species that typically grow in much higher latitudes or elevations. This exceptional plant community led to the designation of the area as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
