Hart Crag, Mountain summit in Lake District, England

Hart Crag is a mountain peak in the Eastern Fells of the Lake District that reaches 822 meters in elevation. Two stone cairns sit at the summit to mark the highest point.

The mountain was included in Alfred Wainwright's walking guide to Lake District fells, establishing its status as a classic fell to visit. This publication introduced it to walkers seeking established routes in the area.

Local hiking groups regularly organize guided walks along the Deepdale Horseshoe route, introducing newcomers to traditional fell walking techniques.

The peak is reachable via established paths from Patterdale or can be added to the Fairfield Horseshoe circuit starting from Ambleside. The trails are clearly marked, though the terrain is steep and requires proper footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.

The summit sits where three major ridges meet, forming a natural junction for several popular walking routes. From this point, walkers can easily move on to nearby peaks such as Fairfield and Dove Crag.
