High Hartsop Dodd, Mountain summit in Lake District, England
High Hartsop Dodd is a mountain summit in the Eastern Fells, standing at about 519 meters in height. A small cairn marks the peak, with steep slopes descending toward Kirkstone Pass below.
Alfred Wainwright described this summit in his Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells as an independent fell, even though it sits close to Little Hart Crag. This classification shaped how walkers view and relate to the mountains in this area.
The summit forms part of well-known walking circuits in the Lake District and connects several neighboring peaks together. Walkers use the established routes to move between the elevations and enjoy different views from each one.
The summit is accessible from two main starting points: Kirkstonefoot or Cow Bridge, with established paths through grassy terrain to the top. The walk requires suitable footwear and care on the steeper sections.
In Caiston Glen on the slope of this mountain lie traces of old lead mining activity, including an abandoned mine shaft. These historical remains tell a different story about how people used the landscape in the past.
