High Street, Mountain summit in Lake District, England
High Street stands at 828 meters above sea level and marks the highest point in the eastern section of Lake District National Park.
A Roman road connected military forts between Brougham and Ambleside, following an unusual path through the mountain's summit instead of lower ground.
The flat summit area served as a gathering place for local summer fairs during the 18th and 19th centuries where communities returned stray sheep.
Multiple access routes lead to the summit from Mardale, Patterdale, Kentmere, and Troutbeck, with clear markers and an Ordnance Survey triangulation point.
The River Kent originates from High Street's southern slopes and flows through a 300-meter descent over 40 kilometers of terrain.
