Thiruputkuzhi

Thiruputkuzhi is a Hindu temple in Tamil Nadu featuring a five-tiered Rajagopuram tower surrounded by granite walls and multiple shrines dedicated to different deities. The complex displays typical South Indian temple design with carefully arranged spaces for worship and pilgrimage.

Construction of this temple began in the 13th century under Pandya rule and received major additions from the Chola and Nayak dynasties over the following centuries. These successive building phases shaped the structure visitors see today.

The temple sits west of Kanchipuram and can be reached via the Chennai-Vellore highway, with the nearest train station at Kanchipuram. Visitors should wear modest clothing and expect basic facilities at the site.

According to the Ramayana, this site marks where Lord Rama performed funeral rites for Jatayu, an eagle who died defending Sita from abduction. This mythological connection gives the place special meaning for devoted visitors.
