Castello Mediceo, Renaissance castle in Ottaviano, Italy

The Castello Mediceo features a northern facade with intricate stucco decorations and a central portal crowned by the Medici coat of arms.

The castle origins date to 1039, when it served as a military stronghold before Charles of Anjou destroyed it in 1304.

The interior halls display artistic elements including frescoes by Mozzillo and traditional majolica floor tiles that represent Renaissance decorative techniques.

The castle now functions as the headquarters of the National Park of Vesuvius, managing 8,482 hectares across 13 municipalities.

In 1995, after being confiscated from organized crime ownership, the castle became a symbol of restored legality and public cultural heritage.
