Giardini del Molosiglio, Urban park in San Ferdinando district, Naples, Italy.
Giardini del Molosiglio is an urban park in the San Ferdinando district of Naples, sitting along the waterfront between the historic center and the Chiaia seafront. Three monumental fountains, known as the Papyrus Fountain, the Shell Fountain, and the Lions Fountain, are placed along the park's paths.
The park was laid out in the 1920s as part of urban works linking eastern Naples to the Chiaia waterfront. Before that, the area had served as a landing point for boats, given its position right on the sea.
The Monument to the Infantry honors soldiers who died in World War I, marked by a Corinthian column with names and battles carved into the stone. It stands at the heart of the park and gives the space a tone of public remembrance that visitors can read directly.
The park is easy to reach on foot from the historic center, as it sits right along the coastal road Via Acton. Going in the morning tends to mean fewer people, especially on weekends.
The name Molosiglio comes from the Spanish word 'molosillo,' meaning small pier, a reminder that this spot was once an active landing place for boats. This origin shows how deeply the Spanish rule over Naples left its mark on the language of the city's neighborhoods.
