Oasi naturale del Monte Polveracchio

The Monte Polveracchio Natural Oasis is a protected forest reserve in the Picentini Mountains, covering about 200 hectares of land. The area consists mainly of beech woodland where wolves, wild cats, and rare amphibians find shelter and food.

The reserve was established in 1985 to protect the valuable forests and wildlife of the Campania region from further destruction. This decision marked an important moment in safeguarding this ecologically rich mountain area.

This reserve shows visitors how important it is to protect mountain forests and their wildlife. The site hosts regular programs that help people connect with nature and understand conservation in practice.

The reserve is accessible via provincial road 31 between Campagna and Acerno, with an information center available for visitors. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the forest trails are hilly and can be slippery depending on weather conditions.

Wolves still roam wild here, a species that has disappeared from most of Europe. This mountain is one of the few places in southern Italy where visitors can encounter traces of these animals in their natural habitat.
