Teatro Sociale, Theatre building in Canicattì, Italy.
The Teatro Sociale features an elliptical central space with boxes arranged in a horseshoe shape, following traditional Italian opera house design principles.
Architect Ernesto Basile designed the theater in 1889, and construction was completed in 1908 on the former site of a Carmelite monastery.
In 1927, playwright Luigi Pirandello performed 'Six Characters in Search of an Author' with his theater company at Teatro Sociale.
The theater accommodates 300 spectators and underwent extensive restoration between 2004 and 2006, reopening its doors in December 2009.
The building incorporates Liberty style elements with Doric and Corinthian pilasters, wrought iron gates, and distinctive battlements supported by spheres.
