NHK Hall, Concert hall in Shibuya, Japan
NHK Hall is a concert venue with 3675 seats in the Shibuya district of Tokyo, forming part of the larger NHK Broadcasting Center complex. The auditorium features an advanced acoustic system designed by Minoru Nagata, making the space a favored location for orchestral performances.
The hall opened on June 20, 1973, as part of the NHK Broadcasting Center and replaced an earlier venue in the Uchisaiwai-cho district. Between March 2021 and June 2022, the building underwent extensive renovation and earthquake reinforcement work.
The building serves as home to the NHK Symphony Orchestra and is known as the venue for the annual New Year's Eve music show Kohaku Uta Gassen. Visitors experience a concert hall designed for classical orchestral performances and regularly attended by music lovers from across the city.
The entrance is located on the ground floor of the broadcasting center and can be reached via the main pathways in the Shibuya district. Visitors will find toilets and refreshment points on site, as well as a coat check for concert evenings.
The hall sits within the headquarters of Japan's public broadcasting corporation, combining media production with performance spaces under one roof. Television cameras are permanently installed in the auditorium, allowing concerts to be broadcast live to television audiences.
