Shibuya-AX, Concert venue in Shibuya-ku, Japan
Shibuya-AX was a concert hall in Shibuya-ku, Japan, that stood next to Yoyogi National Gymnasium and offered space for 1,697 spectators. The hall featured multiple levels and viewing angles, allowing the audience to see the stage from different positions.
The concert hall opened in December 2000 and closed in May 2014 after fourteen years of operation. Over the years, Japanese and international artists performed here before the building was shut down.
During its years of operation, this venue served as an important stop for smaller bands making their first larger appearances in Tokyo. Many young musicians saw a performance here as a breakthrough and a sign of growing recognition.
The venue stood at 2-1-1 Jinnan and was reachable through Harajuku station on the Yamanote line or Meiji-Jingumae station on the Chiyoda line. Today, the building is no longer in operation and does not host concerts anymore.
Lady Gaga performed here in June 2009 during her Fame Ball Tour, when she was still at the beginning of her career. Sonata Arctica recorded a complete DVD of a live performance in this hall in 2005.
