Daiun-in, Buddhist temple in Gion, Japan.
The temple features traditional Japanese architecture with a prominent tower called Gion-kaku, which rises above the Higashiyama district in Kyoto.
Established in 1587 during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, Daiun-in has maintained its position as a Buddhist sanctuary for over four centuries.
The temple's tower walls contain painted decorations that extend from the base to the summit, representing Japanese artistic traditions.
While generally closed to regular visits, the temple opens its doors to the public during selected weeks in autumn.
The Gion-kaku tower, constructed in 1928, mirrors the design of a traditional float used in the annual Gion festival.
