Seiryū-ji, Buddhist temple in Higashiyama-ku, Japan
Seiryū-ji sits on Mount Otowa, featuring traditional Buddhist architecture with a main hall constructed from local cypress wood and multiple prayer areas.
The temple started over 1250 years ago when a Buddhist priest discovered a natural spring flowing from Mount Otowa in eastern Kyoto.
The temple maintains its status as a Kannon Reijo, where people gather to request mercy and compassion from the deity Kannon through meditation.
Visitors can reach the temple grounds through multiple transportation options from Kyoto Station, with regular bus services running throughout the day.
The temple contains numerous paintings of Buddhist priests and saints, including a large work showing the Descent of Amida among celestial beings.
