Seiryū-ji

Seiryū-ji is a Buddhist temple in Kyoto situated on a mountainside with traditional architecture and multiple prayer halls spread across the grounds. The main hall was constructed from local cypress wood and features traditional design elements throughout its interior spaces.

The temple was founded over 1000 years ago when a Buddhist monk discovered a natural spring flowing from Mount Otowa on the eastern edge of Kyoto. The site became an important spiritual destination and drew pilgrims for centuries afterward.

The temple serves as a place where visitors come to seek compassion and mercy from Kannon, the deity of grace. People gather here to experience spiritual reflection through quiet prayer and meditation.

The temple houses a collection of paintings depicting Buddhist priests and saints, including a large work showing the celestial arrival of Amida. These detailed artworks form an important part of the visual experience when visiting the site.
