Rokko International Musical Box Museum

The Rokko International Musical Box Museum displays mechanical music instruments and boxes from Europe and America spread across three floors. The collection shows different styles and construction methods from various periods.

The museum opened in 1994 and focuses on mechanical music instruments from the 19th and 20th centuries. The collection preserves examples from an important period in how people experienced recorded music.

The second floor hosts regular performances where visitors hear antique musical boxes play their mechanical tunes. These live demonstrations show how carefully crafted instruments transform simple mechanics into melodies.

The museum sits high on the mountainside and is not easy to reach on foot, making the cable car or bus the most practical option for getting there. Visitors should allow time to explore all three floors without rushing.

Visitors can join workshops to build their own musical boxes with tunes they choose themselves. This hands-on experience reveals how skillfully these instruments are crafted and assembled.
