Rokkō Arima Ropeway, Aerial tramway at Mount Rokko, Kobe, Japan
Rokkō Arima Ropeway is an aerial tramway at Mount Rokkō in Kobe, Japan, linking the summit area with the Arima Onsen hot spring district. Gondolas glide above forests and valleys, crossing nearly 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) between the two terminal stations.
Operations began in July 1970 as a transport link between mountain summit and thermal baths. The old gondolas were replaced in March 2020 by new cabins manufactured in Switzerland.
The ropeway system features educational displays at its stations, including the preserved Shakunage gondola that operated until 2004.
Combination tickets cover multiple mountain transport options, including bus and funicular, for a continuous route to the summit. Queues can be longer on weekends, especially during autumn foliage season.
The stations display a preserved Shakunage gondola that operated until 2004, part of the mountain's transport history. Modern cabins have all-around panoramic windows and carry up to 61 people at once.
