Museum of Nature and Human Activities, Hyōgo, Natural history museum in Sanda, Japan
The Museum of Nature and Human Activities is a natural history museum in Sanda, Hyogo Prefecture, displaying geological specimens, dinosaur fossils, and biological exhibits across four floors. Its collections focus on the rocks, bones, and living species connected to the Hyogo region.
The museum opened in 1992 and grew into a leading center for natural sciences in western Japan. It gained wider recognition through fossil discoveries made in the Tanba-Sasayama area, which turned out to be one of Japan's most productive dinosaur fossil sites.
The museum displays findings from the Tanba-Sasayama region and makes the area's natural history tangible for visitors. The collections help people understand the geological character of Hyogo Prefecture.
The museum is a short walk from Flower Town Station and easy to reach on foot. Plan for at least an hour or two to go through all four floors at a comfortable pace.
A real fin whale skeleton recovered from Osaka Bay is on display here and ranks among the largest whale displays in Japan. The skeleton is mounted so that visitors can view it from multiple angles, including from the floors above.
