Sanda, City in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan
Sanda is a city in Hyōgo Prefecture, positioned between the larger urban centers of Kobe and Osaka. The city spreads across hilly terrain shaped by forested mountains and broad river valleys.
The settlement emerged in the former Settsu Province and took its name from three rice fields that were established there. In July 1958 the status of an official city was granted.
The Sanda Matsuri features large fireworks displays, while the Hyakkoku Odori dance festival preserves traditional performing arts throughout the year.
The urban area sits between two major metropolitan regions and is well connected by road and rail links. Shops and public facilities concentrate around the larger train stations, while the outer areas remain more rural.
The area is known for beef production and for Mōshi tea, which is picked only during a short harvest period in late spring. Both products carry the city name and are tended by growers in the surrounding hills.
