Kirishima Onsen

Kirishima Onsen is a hot spring resort with multiple bathing facilities located on the lower slopes of the Kirishima Mountains. The area offers views of Kagoshima Bay and the Sakurajima volcano.

The location became known when samurai Sakamoto Ryoma came here with his wife in 1866 for recovery. This event is often regarded as one of Japan's first honeymoons.

The different springs here have varying mineral compositions that visitors can explore through traditional bathing practices. Each source offers its own bathing experience based on its natural properties.

Visitors can use public baths and private ryokan facilities during daytime hours. It is advisable to check opening times in advance and prepare for different types of facilities.

Near Maruo Onsen, local vendors sell traditional snacks cooked using volcanic steam. Eggs, corn, and rice cakes are prepared this way and are popular with visitors.
