The cascading waters of Inukai Falls plunge 36 meters down a rock face, spanning 22 meters in width within the Tenryu River system.
During the late Nara period, nobleman Wake no Kiyomaro was exiled to this location after preventing Buddhist monk Dokyo from ascending to the imperial throne.
The adjacent Wake Shrine, dedicated to Wake no Kiyomaro, stands as a religious center where local residents conduct traditional ceremonies throughout the year.
Visitors can reach the falls by taking a bus from JR Kokubu Station to Anraku Bridge, followed by a 30-minute walk through forest paths.
Sakamoto Ryoma and his wife Oryo made this location part of their pioneering honeymoon journey, marking one of the first recorded honeymoons in Japanese history.
