Komagata Otsuka Kofun

The Komagata Otsuka Kofun features a keyhole shape with a total length of 64 meters, comprising a circular portion of 16 meters diameter and a rectangular section extending 32 meters.

Constructed during the late 4th century AD, this burial mound contained a wooden casket measuring 3.2 meters in length, along with bronze mirrors, iron weapons, and copper ornaments.

The mound represents burial practices of ancient Japanese elite society, with its surface covered in fukiishi stone chips and containing multiple ceremonial artifacts.

Located within Komagata Park, the site can be accessed by car, approximately 90 minutes from JR Tohoku Shinkansen Utsunomiya Station.

The burial chamber excavation in 1974 revealed an extensive collection of preserved artifacts, including earthenware, glass jewelry, and various metal implements.
