Hōkaku-ji, Buddhist temple in Kurotaki, Japan
The temple stands among 2000 bamboo plants with winding stone paths leading to the main hall and surrounding meditation areas.
Founded in 678 by En no Gyoja, Hokaku-ji underwent restoration in 895 by Shobo and later became the head temple of its own Shingon Buddhist sect.
The temple houses the Shonyoirin Kannon statue representing the Deity of Mercy and maintains the Byoto mausoleum tower, designated as an Important Cultural Property.
Located at 90 Torisumi, Oaza in Kurotaki-mura, the temple welcomes visitors interested in exploring Japanese Buddhist architecture and spiritual practices.
The temple's mountain name, Hyakurazan, reflects its position as the central institution of the Hokaku-ji school within Shingon Buddhism.
