Marunouchi Central Building, Office skyscraper in Marunouchi, Japan
Marunouchi Central Building is a 14-story office tower in Tokyo's business district that connects directly to Tokyo Station through its ground floor passage. The glass exterior and open-plan ground level define the modern appearance of this mixed-use complex.
The building was completed in 2003 and replaced the former control center for the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen high-speed rail lines. This redevelopment transformed the site into a modern office building at a historically important transport junction.
Architect Kisho Kurokawa designed this structure, integrating modern Japanese architectural elements with functional office space requirements.
The building is centrally located and served by several nearby metro lines, making it easy to reach. Visitors can explore the public areas on the ground floor to get oriented at this major transport hub.
The basement levels contain specialized railway maintenance facilities for Shinkansen bullet trains, making it one of Tokyo's few office buildings with functional train infrastructure beneath its commercial spaces. This hidden engineering component serves the high-speed rail network while commuters and workers pass through the floors above.
