Mt.Fuji World Heritage Centre, Shizuoka, World Heritage visitor center in Fujinomiya, Japan.
The Mt. Fuji World Heritage Centre features an inverted conical architecture designed by Shigeru Ban, with cypress wood lattice work that mirrors Mount Fuji's shape and reflects in a pond below.
Opened in December 2017 to commemorate Mount Fuji's UNESCO World Heritage designation, the center was established to preserve and transmit the mountain's historical significance to future generations.
The center showcases Mount Fuji's spiritual importance through exhibits on Shinto, Buddhism, and Shugendo practices, including traditional Fuji Mandala paintings and religious artifacts that demonstrate the mountain's sacred status.
The wheelchair-accessible center operates daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, extending to 6:00 PM during July and August, with a modest entrance fee and free admission for children under 15.
Visitors experience a virtual climb to Mount Fuji's summit through a 200-meter spiraling exhibition path featuring time-lapse videos, wind sound recordings, and an immersive cylindrical structure simulation.
