Saimyoji, Buddhist temple in Toyokawa, Japan

Saimyoji rises on the eastern side of Lake Biwa, displaying traditional Japanese architectural elements with three-tiered pagoda and multiple Buddha halls.

Founded in 834 during the Heian period by priest Sanshū under Emperor Nimmyō command, the temple survived Oda Nobunaga's attempt to burn it down.

The temple maintains active Buddhist practices through monthly Yakushi Goma ceremonies and annual Hatsu Yakushi Dai Hannya-E celebrations in January.

Visitors reach the temple via JR Tokaido Line to Kawase station, followed by a local bus to Omi Tetsudo Amago station with service from 8 AM.

Saimyoji features the 250-year-old Fudanzakura cherry tree that produces blossoms during multiple seasons, including autumn alongside maple leaves.
