Abeno Harukas Art Museum, Art museum on 16th floor of Abeno Harukas in Osaka, Japan
Abeno Harukas Art Museum is an art museum located on the 16th floor of the Abeno Harukas building in Osaka. The exhibition space of about 880 square meters presents rotating displays of national treasures and important cultural properties throughout the year.
The museum opened in 2014 as part of the Abeno Harukas complex, which was at that time the tallest building in Japan. This opening made it a contemporary art institution housed in one of the country's most visited skyscrapers.
The museum displays works by artists like Picasso and Matisse alongside Japanese treasures, shaping how visitors experience art from both traditions. This blend of Western and Eastern works reflects how the city values different forms of artistic expression.
The museum is accessible by public transit through Tennoji Station, which is served by multiple subway and train lines. The daily operating hours make it convenient to visit either after work or on weekends.
The museum's director, art historian Asano Shugo, also leads the Yamato Bunkakan, creating links between different art institutions in the region. This personal connection shapes the exhibition strategy of both venues and influences which works visitors encounter.
