ソララ

Sorara is a 31-story skyscraper in Sendai standing 141 meters (463 feet) high, with shops on lower floors, offices in the middle section, and apartments above. The building combines these different uses within a single structure located right next to the train station.

Sorara opened in 2010 as a new symbol of vertical growth in Sendai's city center during a period of urban modernization. The building represented a shift toward mixed-use towers in the downtown area, setting a pattern for future development.

The building reflects Japanese architectural principles with its glass facade and geometric design, integrating modern elements while maintaining regional construction traditions.

The building sits right next to Sendai Station, making it easy to find and access. The retail areas on the lower floors are open to the public without charge, offering shops and places to eat.

The building was tested by the massive 2011 Tohoku earthquake and suffered no major damage thanks to its advanced seismic engineering. This survival of one of Japan's largest earthquakes demonstrates how modern safety systems work in practice.
