Fort de Zenshoji

Fort de Zenshoji, Mountain fortress in Narumi, Japan

The Zenshoji Fort is a mountain fortress in Narumi composed of a leveled hilltop area offering strategic views toward the surrounding territories. The site now functions as a public park where visitors can walk through the open space and observe the landscape below.

Oda Nobunaga constructed this fortress in 1559 as one of three fortifications to counter the Imagawa forces at the nearby Narumi Castle. The construction was part of a coordinated strategy to control this important region during the warring years of the Sengoku period.

The site displays typical features of the Sengoku period, when regional lords built defensive structures to protect their territories. Visitors can still see how the elevated position allowed those in charge to monitor the surrounding landscape.

The location has been transformed into a public park and is reachable from Narumi Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line. The path crosses residential areas, so it helps to plan your route in advance to avoid getting lost.

Before his surprise attack at the Battle of Okehazama, Nobunaga gathered his troops beneath this fortress to prepare for the engagement. This connection makes the site a key reference point for one of the most famous battles in Japanese military history.
