Fort de Zenshoji, Mountain fortress in Narumi, Japan

The Zenshoji Fort consists of a leveled hilltop area with strategic views towards the surrounding territories and former battlefields of medieval Japan.

Oda Nobunaga constructed this fort in 1559 as one of three fortifications to counter the Imagawa forces stationed at Narumi Castle.

The fort represents the military architecture of the Sengoku period when regional lords built defensive structures to protect their territories.

The fort location, now transformed into a public park, stands a 15-minute walk from Narumi Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line.

Before launching his surprise attack at the Battle of Okehazama, Nobunaga gathered his troops beneath this fort to prepare for the engagement.
