Taiyō-ji

Taiyō-ji temple sits on a mountain peak two hours from Tokyo, with its main hall positioned to receive the morning light through open windows.

The temple, established in 1757, maintains its original wooden structure, providing a direct connection to eighteenth-century Japanese religious architecture.

Guests participate in traditional Buddhist practices including sutra copying, morning meditation sessions, and vegetarian meals prepared according to temple traditions.

Visitors reach the temple via Mitsumineguchi Station, followed by either a bus ride and walk up an ancient pilgrim path or an arranged pickup service.

The resident monk, formerly an office worker, personally manages all aspects of the temple stay program and conducts services in both Japanese and English.
