Owariasahi, Administrative city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan
Owariasahi is a city in Aichi Prefecture located northwest of Nagoya, combining residential neighborhoods with the Aichi Prefectural Forest Park that occupies a substantial portion of the land. The municipality blends developed areas with green spaces, creating a mixture of urban and natural environments throughout its territory.
The region transformed from an agricultural center focused on rice and silk production into a pottery and ceramics manufacturing hub during the late Taisho period. This economic shift shaped the area's development and continues to influence its character today.
The city maintains four designated intangible cultural properties, including traditional performances such as Bo-no-te, Uchi-hayashi, Zaiodori, and Omanto that shape local identity.
The Meitetsu Seto Line provides rail access via three stations - Inba, Owari Asahi, and Sango - connecting the city to the wider regional transportation network. Visitors can move through the city and reach other areas of the prefecture easily using public transportation.
The municipality renamed itself upon receiving city status in 1970 to distinguish itself from other places called Asahi throughout Japan. This name change reflects the effort to establish its own distinct identity.
