Monument Ossuary of the fallen Partisans

The monument is a concrete structure shaped like a truncated cone with an underground section accessible through three separate staircases within the Certosa cemetery. Inside, burial niches line the circular walls, combined with bronze sculptures and a central water pool for reflection.

The ossuary was designed by architect Piero Bottoni and opened in 1959 to commemorate partisans who died during World War II in Bologna. Its creation followed the city's broader efforts to preserve memory of those who resisted during the fascist occupation.

The name honors the partisans who lost their lives during World War II. Visitors can experience how the sculptural elements and water feature together create a space for reflection and remembrance.

The monument is located on the Certosa cemetery grounds and is best reached on foot from the main entrance. Visitors should know that stairs descend to the underground section, so sturdy footwear is recommended for safe exploration.

An inscription reading 'Free they climb to the heaven of glory' repeats four times around the outer edge of the structure. At the entrance stands a granite sarcophagus honoring Giuseppe Dozza, a notable partisan leader of the resistance movement.
