Inohana Park, 千葉県千葉市中央区にある歴史公園
Inohana Park is a historical park in Chuo built on the remains of a medieval castle. The site displays earthworks and moats that mark the original fortification, along with a reconstructed castle tower from 1967 that houses a small museum with samurai weapons and information about the city's past.
The castle was founded in 1126 by Tsuneshige Chiba, a member of the clan that supported early shoguns and helped establish the Kamakura shogunate. The site may have served different purposes during the Sengoku period before being protected as a cultural property in modern times.
The name Inohana refers to the shape of the hill, literally meaning pig's nose. Locals gather here to connect with their history through seasonal events like the cherry blossom festival and to remember the figures who shaped their region long ago.
You can reach the park easily from Chiba Station or Hon-Chiba Station, which are just a short bus ride or walk away. There is no parking nearby, so public transport or walking is the best option.
The park contains a historic well called Ochanomizu where, according to legend, the samurai Chiba Tsunetane prepared tea for a famous general named Minamoto no Yoritomo. Another notable detail is a set of old stone steps called Ikedazaka believed to be the back gate of the original fortress, giving visitors a sense of the castle's daily life.
