Tenryuji, Buddhist temple in Shinjuku, Japan.

Tenryuji Temple stands among modern buildings at the intersection of Shinjuku 4-chome, near the commercial district of Tokyo's entertainment center.

Founded in 1591, the temple relocated from Totomi Province to Edo under Tokugawa Ieyasu's directive, changing its name from Hosenji to Tenryuji Temple.

The temple houses one of Edo's Three Famous Bells, a designated cultural property cast in 1767, which rings across the Shinjuku district.

Located 3 minutes from Shinjuku Station's New South Exit and Shinjuku-sanchome Station, the temple maintains regular services every Thursday.

The temple contains a wooden clock tower structure and an inscribed memorial tablet carved by Tokugawa Ieyasu himself during a military campaign.
