ござれや阿賀橋

Gozareya Aga Bridge is a steel structure spanning the Aga River with broad traffic lanes and separate pedestrian paths on each side. It serves as a major route connecting neighborhoods on both banks, handling the flow of vehicles and foot traffic throughout the city.

The bridge was built in the 1980s as part of Niigata's infrastructure expansion to connect communities across the Aga River. It became a key component of the city's modern road network and continues to serve as a vital transportation artery.

Local residents gather at the bridge during winter festivals to observe the snow-covered landscape and participate in traditional celebrations.

Access is available from both sides of the river and the bridge is open year-round for travel. During winter months, snow and ice can make surfaces slippery, so caution is advised when conditions are wet or icy.

The name 'Gozareya' comes from local dialect and preserves a word from historical speech patterns of the region. Few visitors recognize this linguistic connection, though it reflects how the Niigata area has traditionally spoken.
