Lanmadaw Township is an administrative district in the western part of downtown Yangon, Myanmar. Its streets are narrow, lined with small shops, open-air stalls, and older buildings that sit close together, giving the area a compact and active feel.
Lanmadaw began as a small settlement and grew as Yangon expanded into a major colonial city under British rule. Some buildings from that era still stand along its streets, now repurposed as shops or offices.
Lanmadaw sits within Yangon's Chinatown, where Chinese-owned shops and restaurants are common along the main streets. During festivals, locals hang lanterns and decorations in front of their businesses, making the area noticeably different from the rest of downtown.
Lanmadaw is easy to explore on foot, though the streets get crowded during morning and evening commuting hours. Local buses and motorcycle taxis run through the area regularly, making it easy to reach nearby parts of the city.
Lanmadaw is home to the Yangon Central Women's Hospital, one of the few facilities in the city dedicated entirely to women's health. A short walk away, the Yangon Institute of Nursing trains the next generation of healthcare workers for the wider region.
