Sri Sendayan Mosque, Islamic prayer complex in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.
Sri Sendayan Mosque is an Islamic prayer complex in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, containing three prayer halls: a main hall that holds 3,000 worshippers, a secondary hall for 800, and a women's section for 800 people. The grounds also include lecture rooms, a library, a multipurpose hall, funeral facilities, administrative buildings, and dining halls for community gatherings.
Construction began in 2016 with a budget of 100 million Malaysian Ringgit and continued until the official opening in September 2019. The project arose as a response to growing demand for prayer space in the developing Sri Sendayan area.
Wooden carvings and calligraphy line the interior walls, drawing on design traditions from Egypt, Turkey, Dubai, Morocco, and China that visitors notice while moving through the space. These influences from the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia come together in a building that references different Muslim architectural practices.
The grounds cover a large area with several separate buildings, so visitors should allow time to find their way around on a first visit. Modest dress is expected, and women should bring a headscarf or borrow one at the entrance.
The main dome is painted with 24-karat gold paint, a detail that catches the light on sunny days. Six residential units on the grounds provide housing for staff members, allowing for permanent presence at the site.
