Millennium Monument, National monument in Putrajaya, Malaysia
The Millennium Monument is a structure in Putrajaya that rises 68 meters above the waterfront and features a central column with a multilevel platform around its base. Glass panels integrated into the construction document significant Malaysian historical events.
The structure was created to commemorate cultural moments from Malaysian history starting in 1766. The glass panels display events such as the founding of Kuala Selangor and the launch of the first newspaper in 1806.
The monument displays design elements that connect to local identity through its shape. When viewed from above, the top resembles a hibiscus flower, linking the structure to a symbol recognized throughout the region.
Visitors access the monument via ramps leading to observation platforms with views of Putrajaya Lake and nearby buildings. Multiple levels allow you to climb and enjoy different vantage points of the surroundings.
A time capsule containing a message from former Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohammad is sealed within the monument's base. This hidden message intended for future generations transforms the site into more than just a viewpoint.
