Istana Melawati, Royal palace in Putrajaya, Malaysia
Istana Melawati is a royal palace in Putrajaya defined by three prominent towers and elaborate three-tiered roofs adorned with traditional clay ornaments. The structure contains spaces for royal functions and is surrounded by maintained gardens that define the grounds.
Construction of the palace began in 1999 and was completed in 2002 under the supervision of Perbadanan Putrajaya, creating a royal retreat adapted for contemporary needs. The project formed part of the broader development of Putrajaya as a new administrative capital.
The palace blends traditional Malay architectural elements with contemporary design, which is visible in the elaborate roof structures and decorative details throughout the building. Visitors can observe the craftsmanship and care that local artisans invested in shaping each component.
The interior of the palace is not open to regular visitors, but exterior views and surrounding gardens can be seen from designated public areas during daylight hours. The best views of the structure are found from marked vantage points around the grounds.
The Meeting Wing features a substantial staircase constructed from chengal wood, crowned with a golden roof that showcases Malaysian craftsmanship. This combination of local timber and gilded details reveals the care taken in material selection.
