Giraffe statue in Silesian Park

The Giraffe statue in Silesian Park is a 16-meter tall concrete structure presenting an abstract interpretation of the animal's form. The sculpture stands in an open area of the park surrounded by paths and green spaces that allow visitors clear views from all directions.

The monument was created in 1959 by artists Leszek Dutka and Leopold Pędziałek during a period of artistic development in post-war Poland. The Gliwickie Zakłady Urządzeń Technicznych factory combined industrial manufacturing with artistic vision when producing the work.

The sculpture became a symbol of the park and shows how post-war artists used animal figures to express ideas about hope and progress. Visitors recognize it from a distance and use it as a landmark when walking through the green spaces.

The statue is located along Aleja Żyrafy in Silesian Park and is easily reached on foot via park paths. The site is open and accessible, with daytime visits offering the clearest views of the concrete structure and surrounding landscape.

The work came from an unusual partnership between artists and an industrial factory that normally produced technical equipment. This collaboration shows how manufacturing capacity was also used for public art projects during this period.
