Krsmanović's House at Terazije, Protected cultural monument in Savski Venac, Serbia.
Krsmanović's House is a neo-baroque mansion on Terazije Street featuring a distinctive curved double flight of stairs descending from a semi-circular terrace. The building now functions as an administrative hub with multiple office spaces and commercial operations occupying its interior.
The mansion was built in 1885 for wealthy merchant Marko Marković and later attracted notable residents seeking status in Belgrade's finest neighborhoods. Prince Regent Alexander Karađorđević moved into the residence in 1918 during a pivotal time for the newly forming kingdom.
The house retains the name of the Krsmanović family, its original owners, even though it passed to other wealthy families over time. The neo-baroque design reflects how influential merchants and nobility wanted to display their status through architecture in 19th-century Belgrade.
The building is occupied by various companies and offices that operate during standard business hours on weekdays. Visitors can admire the exterior architecture and facade while walking along Terazije Street, one of Belgrade's main thoroughfares in the city center.
The residence witnessed a pivotal moment in South Slavic history when key officials signed the founding declaration of a new nation within its walls. Few visitors realize that this elegant building served as the birthplace of a monarchy that would define the region for much of the twentieth century.
